It was the nineteenth century when Fernando VII, father of two daughters, adopted the Salic Law that allowed the heir to the throne was a woman. When he died, his brother Carlos Borbon did not recognize his niece as heir to the throne of Spain, thus starting the Carlist dispute. The widowed queen and regent Maria Cristina, allied with liberal political sectors to his daughter Elizabeth was queen of Spain. To reinforce the figure of the future queen, they decided that Isabel marry her cousin, Francisco de Asis who was also a Bourbon, and that is not expecting much interest in political decisions of the state.
